PRINT SMART Security
Print Smart collects
printer and copier metrics using the Data Collector Agent (DCA). The DCA is a software application that is installed on a networked computer running Windows 2000/XP or higher. The DCA does not require a dedicated computer.
The DCA runs as a Windows® service, allowing it to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can customize the transmission interval to determine how often the DCA will perform a device discovery.
After each discovery, the collected data will be sent to the Laser World secure web server.
The DCA uses one-way communication; two-way communication can be enabled for automatic updates only. The collected data is sent via port 443, 80, or 21 to the Laser World web server. The DCA collects device data using SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol), and HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol).
PRINT SMART Compliance
The use of PRINT SMARTS's software applications will not have an impact on compliance with the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) for covered entities.
This is because the applications do not collect, house, or transmit any information regarding the content of print jobs, and thus have no way of accessing, housing, or transmitting electronic protected health information (ePHI) as defined by HIPAA.
However, we may need to obtain appropriate authorization according to your HIPAA compliance policies to install a DCA, particularly if we are using a workstation or an area that has the capability of accessing ePHI. We will inquire about what authorization we will need before we access any workstation capable of accessing ePHI.
The use of PRINT SMART's software applications will not have an impact on Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, as it is not intended to be used as part of an internal control structure as outlined in section 404: Management Assessment of Internal Controls, and will not interfere with these controls.
Under this Act, corporate executives become responsible for establishing, evaluating, and monitoring the effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting. There are IT systems designed specifically for meeting these objectives. PRINT SMART's software is not designed as an IT control system, and will not interfere or put at risk other systems that are intended for that purpose.
